Dr. Kenisha Coon

Director of Community Engagement

Dr. Kenisha Coon serves as the Director of Community Engagement for Eko Vision Foundation, where she leads strategic partnerships, advocacy initiatives, and inclusive programming to advance accessibility and empowerment for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Kenisha represents the State of Michigan, where her connection to this work is both professional and deeply personal. After being diagnosed with Acute Zonal Occult Outer Retinopathy (AZOOR) and Uveitis, along with identified NMNAT1 and VCAN genetic variants linked to retinal degeneration, she began to experience significant and permanent vision loss, which has ultimately led to legal blindness and extreme low vision. Navigating her “new normal” has transformed how she experiences the world and strengthened her commitment to advocacy, accessibility, and community engagement.

“I’m thrilled to be in this space, not only to build my capacity within my new normal but also to advocate for others navigating vision loss,” Kenisha shares. Her journey is one of resilience, purpose, and transformation, reflecting her belief that disability is not a limitation but a catalyst for innovation, empathy, and systems change.

A nationally recognized DEI leader with more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Coon has guided government agencies, nonprofits, and organizations through cultural transformation, leadership development, and equity-centered systems change. She is the founder of Kenisha Coon Consulting and the author of And Then She Persisted. Her doctoral research examined the relationship between evidence-based coaching and decision-making and cultural responsiveness in child welfare, contributing critical insights to advancing equity in human services systems.

Through her work with Eko Vision Foundation, Dr. Kenisha Coon continues her lifelong mission to build inclusive communities where every voice is seen, heard, and valued, while championing accessibility, belonging, and systemic advocacy for all.
